This is without doubt one of the finest works that California artist Walt Lee ever painted. Walt was born in 1888, on a farm quite near to what is now the corner of Lake and Colorado in Pasadena. Hard to imagine a farm in that location but it was not that long ago.
His pictures covered much of the landscapes around Southern California and captured beautiful images of a time gone by. This painting in particular shows a scene we would not see today–gypsies camping by the riverbed in Newhall! This area has really grown up and it would be tough to find that location today, although chances are it is quite near to where the Metrolink train tracks run. Drop by the shop to see this gem, it is worth a visit.
